Each year during the week of August 25-31, Black Breastfeeding Week is celebrated nationwide. Created more than 40 years ago, Black Breastfeeding Week was started to raise awareness of disparities in Black mothers’ breastfeeding rates compared to other groups, and possible remedies for these inequities.
To commemorate Black Breastfeeding Week, The Louisville Coalition for Black Maternal Health will be co-hosting a 3K fundraising run/walk with Humana Healthy Horizons. The goal of the Chocolate Milk March 3K is to raise awareness and fundraise for scholarships that support educating Black lactation professionals and local organizations that support Black breastfeeding. Following the 3K, there will be a scholarship ceremony for the eight community members chosen to receive funding for the Certified Lactation Counselor training course and exam. This event will include food, music, and the chance to network.
Join us in person on Sunday, August 28th from 2:00-5:30 pm at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center or complete the run virtually. Race t-shirts are available for in-person participants while supplies last!
